And we are back for Round 3

the holiday was over in a flash... too much rain... too much sleeping... too much eating
and the pool was still not ready
we did watch the entire season of "Grey's"... I'm not telling you people what happens... too bad you just have to keep watching

The new term is here... with a vengence!!!

4 subjects in 3 days... and mostly night classes

and Loree is in China... my partner in crime

Round 2

Were does the time go...

This term is about
HRM... apparently it's all in the Strategic angle... but there still seems to be a blur between the rhetoric and the reality on the subject of honesty and free information for all

Economics... all you ever wanted to know about the Chinese currency and stock market; the aggregate demand & supply and its appropriate leakages

Financial Management... forget about the prenuptial agreement! the most important thing is to calculate the NPV of his future cash flows... and don't forget to get his beta and D/E ratio in case you want to do a JV or M&A

Management Consulting... the Engagement, the Engagement Manager, the Engagement Partner and the Engagement team.... oh what fun we all had with the engaging and all

End of term was hell... blistering and devious

Exams... well, boy am I glad it's all over

Meanwhile on the Party front...
well there was some drinking shots out of a tea pot which did not end so gracefully...
that was followed by an epic MBA party where no body remembered how we got back home... and who was in the car... oh and yes, this time the Police showed up after we had left!
on another occasion Cowboys & Indians alike wanted to check out my bullets on a Wild West chase... questions still linger about who came when and did what; about sleeping arrangements and dancing lessons; luckily no pictures or video have emerged on that occasion
and Oh My God!!! The Police came again and this time they left us a note
There was the first annual MBA dinner during which I felt like a dog cause everyone wanted to touch my hair... ok guys I discovered hairdressing in Aussie land... not a big deal, really... and yes it was all my hair... just blow dried as opposed to it's usual all-over-the-place state to which I have gotten it a one year membership to

The most fun in a while was the night after the exams, which as usual we started just after the last exam... from one place to the other the whole night
Party party party
Drink drink drink
Dance dance dance
All till the day lights came up and we slept and we slept and we slept

Week Off Term 1

Last few weeks have been hectic... it felt like 13 on a scale of 1 to 10

Assignments... presentations... group meetings and dynamics... all very interesting at first

Exam week was hell... I was sick and couldn't even take medication cause it makes me sleepy and I need to keep my mind sharp as a razor, that is before you've given it to your sister to shave her legs

The moment the last exam was over we felt free!!!!!! liberated from the cage and let loose into the nature

Yes we literally went back to our roots!!! We set off on what felt like an endless drive to Jarvis Bay for a long weekend of catching up on drinking and my first camping experience ever

Arriving there at around 11 pm gave us the time to wake up the unfriendly gate keeper lady of the camping, throw a elaborate midnight BBQ, meet the locals, finish a bottle of tequila and half a bottle of vodka... and oh yes, go to the beach and contemplate the Milky Way
The ocean was open for business for the traditional drunken fish competition of course....
The important thing on nights like that is for people to be able to recognise their pants!!!
The marino woolen socks... well we can always find them the next day
Another important lesson:
apparently the size of the tent does matter... the more the merrier

My friends the big news is.... I slept in a tent for three consecutive nights
We made Italian coffee in a plunger every morning... and didn't shower for 3 days

Talk about Paris & Nicole in the Simple Life... they are nothing
We were more like Me + Team Canada + Dutch Boy band Team in the trailer park

It was great.... I loved it!!!
Highly recommended to all

Round 1

Week 5

It's been interesting...

This Term is about
Organisational Behaviour... from a SA perspective with a lot of American twist,
Marketing... let's just say I should have bought Kottler's book after we went to his conference last August
Accounting... has everyone seen those batteries commercials with the bunny that doesn't stop running
Philosophy... now that is some scary crap the guy pulls out at us and it seems to work cause they all don't know what to say... oh, and newsflash : there is no mind and no mental illnesses... doesn't mean you wackos out there are all sane though! you have to work on your will to power first

The rest of it is party and we start from Thursday night!!!

First weekend ended up in a strip joint @ Kings Cross just to have a beer

Second weekend we went for another classical Aussie BBQ and ate a Skippy... that was also the weekend I earned my stripes as a poll dancer according to my friend Loree, but then again that was also the time she did get in loads of trouble for being not so nice to people

So by the third weekend we had to spend time in the kitchen making pizza & pasta @ Phil's BD party... eventually he managed to kick us all out and into the city and that was the first time we saw the inside of a real club in Darling Harbour

Fourth weekend I spent @ the beach... yes finally I got to see the ocean... and the surfer dudes... and spent time drinking beers on the beach and kicking surfer dudes' ass at Backgammon...
My fave place is a beach by the name of D Why... don't ask and never mind the logic... important thing is it's beautiful... except for water is really freezing and the annoying thing is they keep talking about global warming and how the water in the ocean is getting warmer.... yeah right, gimmy a break

Fifth weekend I'm surfing @ Deep Reef and loving it!!!!
It's Pedro's BD and the party produced some interesting footage about a Mexican's night long fight with cervezas... needless to say who won the epic battle... and lucky for some they were not caught on tape
And then woke up on a beautiful Sunday afternoon and went to the beach... fell asleep with my sunnies on and got all burned... I looked like a raccoon

Orientation Weekend - Jan 6 & 7, 2007

The previous night having gone by in a very interesting Aussie style of BBQ and drinking...

Off we go to a weekend of Orientation at MGSM!!!

Suffice to say that it all started with everybody asking me the brand name of my sunnies... and ended in the Business School's Bar!!!!

Oh Yes, my friends we've got a Bar!!!!

Staff were only able to get us out of there after they decided not to give us any more drinks.... nasty buggers! First they give, then they take it away

The only fun thing about the weekend was observing people and getting to know them a bit

We had to do a group thing and talk about euthanasia... so that sucked and I wasn't able to talk on the subject...

I decided I was gonna make the most of it all and have a good year!!!

I still have the message Yavor sent me with the New Year's Wishes:

May the fleas of a thousand camels
infest the ass of the guy who fucks up your year
and may his arms grow too short to scratch his ass!

Arrival - January 5th, 2007

I start the New Year in a new place... with a new place... everything new anyway

Arriving @ 6.30 am on a sunny Sydney morning... but for those who know me... nothing is really my thing after a 10 hour no-sleep-flight

So I'm happy to report that airport staff were very nice and just breezed me through their overly zealous airport security...
I am moving for a year my friends... of course I had 4 suitcases with loads of stuff I don't particularly care to show you!
The guy at airport just took a look at my passport and said he was Belgian too and just told me to go on... hm, I always knew that Belgian nationality thing would come in handy some day... it made my day!

Happy to report that my driver was waiting for me as I came out into the waiting area.
And into the car with whatever I had been able to stuff in my 4 suitcases... and off into this new world Down Under

Ok first impressions... very American... the roads... the people
Driver was very nice and on this clear sunny Friday morning drove me around Sydney.
All I remember though are Starbucks... more coffee shops... streets with NY style street signs... it really looked like Downtown NY at first

And then the nice friendly Iraqi driver took me to the Opera house and the Sydney Harbour Bridge.... and that's the best moment I would always remember...
Only a few nights before on New Years Eve we watched the fireworks on TV at Toni's place... drinking champagne and running around like crazy getting everything ready for the party that night...

After that I kind of switched off... it was freeway going out North of the city....

Arrival at my new place for the next 1 year!!!!
Gosh I made this bet to stay in a place for 1 year... and honestly I don't know how I am gonna do it
It's all spanky clean and brand new... and it looks like something out of Lego land
I was shown to my room, which is the size of my dressing closet...
All I was interested in was to get into a bed...
I guess my mind was on travel mode... but on business trip travel mode!!!
As I plonked myself on the bed and decided to leisurely stretch my weary body and turn around in bed... I fell over on the other side!!!
Yep, no JW Marriott Hkg American king size beds here!!!!

New mission: convince my brain I'm a Student now and get into Student mode

I'm student... I'm student... I'm student.... Swami will be very proud of me
The mind is a powerful thing
